Major budget cuts in Kansas shorts the ability for KDOT to do their jobs properly. Instead of working harder clearing the roads they have to work smarter. This means that only certain highways will be well treated and this is prioritized by the amount of usage. Highway 69 will be top priority, Highway 160 will be cleaned off until you see wet wheel tracks, as for smaller highways such as K-103 or 54 highway, well you will only see one wheel track the rest of the road could be covered in ice and snow. Both Missouri and Oklahoma are operating as usual.
I was devastated to see a budget cut in the highway department; my feelings grew to feel the same as when I started reading the article as to when I was done reading the article. Devastated and appalled.
Mr. Wayne Nelson of KDOT hasn’t got the wrong idea but I will tell you someone in the budget committee does, as I read more on this article located at http://www.fox14tv.com. Mr. Nelson states, “If we get something big here we want to make sure that we're ready to take care of those folks, so by us really protecting our resources now it may give us a better opportunity to make it safe in the future." This statement didn’t make me feel any better that this man has to skimp and save on his highway treatment because of budget cut.
It amazes me to no end that anyone in that budgeting committee would cut short the care of the highways knowing how many lives are at risk for such a stupid move as to save a dollar or two. How about instead of giving the managers raises or anyone in the office raise put a, “Freeze,” on that and put the money where it belongs, on the highways to protect the drivers on bad winter days. Out of all the budget cuts I have read and heard of lately because of this recession this one just boils my blood. So to conserve the salt for the roads the crews have to prioritize which highway should get it more than another highway. So all you hicks that live in the small towns, well if you get fired cause you can’t make it in be sure to stop by the KDOT and let them know you need a job since they didn’t want to clean your roads to give you safe passage to work. I know a bit dramatic but oh my gosh come on people lessen the pocket of a congressman and put it back on the roads where it belongs what the heck?

Man hides in Alabama Wal-Mart, takes cash
Fairfield, Alabama a man decided to take the holiday shopping to a different meaning, he hid in Wal-Mart and later tried to leave with $54,000.00 taped and stuffed all over his body. On November 25th this man hid inside Wal-Mart closed its doors. A guard working that night detained the man as he tried to leave through locked doors. What gave him away was money started falling from his body as he shook the doors to leave. There was also a key that was found on this criminal which makes the police think there may have been an accomplice, this theory hasn’t been proven yet. Chief Pat Mardis said this criminal could of gotten by with all this money if he would have been patient and waited another twenty minutes for the doors to open and he could of slipped through the heavy crowds of people unnoticed. The thirty five year old man is in Jefferson County Jail for robbery and burglary charges with a sixty thousand dollar bond.
I thought this to be a story in the beginning of thievery, and more gloom and doom. I hesitated to read it not wanting to hear this kind of news constantly. So my feelings in the beginning of rather skeptical, and the more I read the more I laughed. I can’t believe anyone one person could be so dumb, amazing to think he would of gotten by with a lot of money only by being patient.
Chief Pat Mardis said, “The man could have escaped if he'd waited 20 more minutes for employees to unlock the doors, but he got nervous.” The ignorance amazes me, first I was excited to hear that he had such a plan that shouldn’t be so easy to accomplish yet it was simple to execute. As this article at http://www.fox14tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11616433 shows all the chaos of the season allows people to get by with things and acting certain ways that are normally completely socially unacceptable.
My family and I always joked about robbing a Brinks truck, and then we all laugh as we walk by the vehicle stating, “With our luck there would only be a roll of nickels in it.” This is a family joke that has been said and laughed about several years. It is astounding as to what people will try to get by with, especially at the holiday time. A large portion of this world knows and feels the recession, but this doesn’t give you the right to do such an illegal action as he did. This is one of those capers that needs to go on the show I think the name was, “Worlds dumbest Criminals.” Wouldn’t you of loved to had been a fly on the wall to have seen the security guards face when that money started falling out? Think about it, this man is a security guard, he is working for his bare minimum wage and this man is walking out with fifty four thousand dollars there is no justice in that. I think if I was the security guard it would of took all I had to keep from beating the snot out of this guy. I work for a living to get my money sucker so should you!!!!

Motorcyclist dead after crash with a car on Joplin’s 32nd Street
Joplin Police state that Monday shortly after eleven a.m. a woman Sharon Fisher sixty seven years of age was driving a car was turning off of 32nd street was hit by a motorcycle from the opposite direction. Christopher Eskandari twenty three years old of Joplin was riding the motorcycle that was involved in the crash. Mr. Eskandari was pronounced dead at the scene. "We responded to an injury accident involving a motorcycle and a car," says Corporal Dan Haskins. "(We) got out here and found out that - unfortunately found out that it was a fatality crash with the motorcyclist being killed in the crash." Sharon Fisher was treated and released at a later time. The Joplin Police Department is still investigating the crash at this time.
I was leery to read this article, but yet hopeful. With each article or notice of news on the television in regards to motorcycle crashes I sit and wait hoping to hear alive or on the way to recovery. I left this article with the same fear as I did in the beginning that death was shortly to follow.
The article was found to be well written and informative at http://www.koamtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11637437 . It would have been better if the motorcyclist beat all odds and was still alive. But atlas no, I was let down. The partial quote from Corporal Dan Haskins, “it was a fatality crash with the motorcyclist being killed in the crash,” I had heard these words before. As you can see at http://www.ok.gov/health/documents/McycleTBI.pdf the equations though speaking in Oklahoma areas are undeniably accurate. Per mile traveled, persons on a motorcycle are approximately 14 times more likely to die and 3 times as likely to be injured in a crash as occupants of passenger cars. This information pulled from http://www.ntsb.gov/speeches/s090303.htm . Since 1997, the number of motorcycle fatalities has increased 141 percent, an increase that far exceeds that of any other form of transportation. In fact, the number of motorcycle fatalities in recent years has been more than double the number of deaths in each year from accidents in the transportation modes of aviation, rail, marine, and pipeline combined. In 2007, for example, 5,154 motorcyclists died in crashes, and motorcycle fatalities now account for more than 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash fatalities. In 1997, 2,116 motorcyclists died. Even more staggering are the increases in injuries in 2006, for example, 88,000 motorcycle injuries were estimated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and in 2007, 103,000.
I was involved in a motorcycle accident and it changed my life forever, these machines are not toys. Motorcycles are a lot of fun, but can be deadly if not taken seriously and to be sure to take all safety precautions possible no matter how you look. I was a avid helmet wearer but my husband complained a lot of being too hot wearing the helmets. I only thank God that we had our helmets on or that road would have had our brain matter all over it. Believe me when I say I love to ride motorcycles; I have ridden since I was less than five years old. This motorcycle was wonderful my husband and I spent a lot of alone time together; he loved this as much as I did. Feeling the wind in your hair, looking at the ground passing by under your feet, it was a adrenalin rush like none other. I guess I won’t crawl on another one with fear of losing my life, my life affects a lot of people and I know that now. I have a lot to live for so unlike this gentleman that was killed. I have time to fix and make amends with what I want to do and where I want to go. I thank God each day that I am alive, as I star at my horrible scars it is only but a reminder of what could have been .

College’s too-fat-to graduate rule under fire
Most college students when completing their time and receive their grades expect to graduate, well in a school located in Pennsylvania school physical fitness matters just as much if not more than grades. Lincoln University has criteria that students with a body mass of 30 percent or more must take a fitness course that meets three hours per week and pass this class in order to graduate. The first class of this requirement is almost coming to an end there are several students and outside persons that require input in regards to this fitness class policy. A current student named, Tiana Lawson, 21 years of age recently wrote an editorial in the school paper regarding this new fitness policy and received national attention. She feels this policy would not be as much of a problem if it applied to all students not just those with high BMI. David Kairys, a professor of law at Temple University Law School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania states, “The part that seems excessive is forcing them to take this course or to exercise three hours a week, which isn’t a bad idea for them, but should be their choice.” David goes on saying the requirement of the students is, “paternalistic and intrusive.” James DeBoy, chairman of the school’s Department of Health and Physical Education, says the requirements are no different than other courses as math and communications. DeBoy said 620 students have either tested out or taken the course, with only eighty remaining to get their BMI evaluated. An estimated number of students 12-15 will need to take the class in January. DeBoy states, “This is one university’s –granted it’s radical and it’s upsetting—approach to try to begin to directly address obesity.”
Interesting, I was not happy reading what I thought was hopefully a misprint in regards to this university doing such a thing. I was as upset finishing this article as I was starting to read this article. Shocked and astounded as to the audacity of some people thinking they have a right to affect someone’s education as such in regards to their size. This personally is no different than racism. The article that got my writing juices flowing so heavy is found at http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/11/30/lincoln.fitness.overweight/index.html.
A person goes to college to learn not to be judged, who are they to say who can graduate due to the size of the student? I always thought it was what was in the brain and how the student uses the knowledge that allows them the ability to graduate or not. Hmm maybe I have been understanding this process wrong, maybe just maybe I shouldn’t be in college because this 42 year old woman won’t be able to pass a physically education class either. "When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself." -- Wayne Dyer (Psychotherapist, Author and Speaker) Well said I think.
I feel this article to be interesting and very debatable as to what our schools are teaching their students. My naïve thoughts of always being concerned what the school is feeding our children, really wasn’t the main issue was it? It doesn’t just stop there; the problems escalate to higher grades. Funny, how society blames mom and dad for the obesity of children today when the school has just as much to blame. How? Have you checked the food that your children eat at school? This problem of schools labeling our children has made it to college, so now the college will decide if your child can graduate or not, it doesn’t matter how smart he or she is, what matters is how much BMI they register at. There is no wonder America isn’t the Top Dog any longer; who are you to judge me or anyone else by their size, and who are you to think you have a right to make me be a certain size? If this so called land of the free is so free then it is my decision as well as those before and after me to decide how big I wish to be, or not to be. My thoughts are those of my own, but consider this in my closing; If you allow people to kill themselves by smoking, then how are we any different, don’t you think you should worry about what we have to offer not what we weigh? Just a thought to make you go, Hmmm?

Frontenac hosts Christmas Kickoff
Frontenac seemed to want to start an early kickoff of the season greetings to all. November 29th Frontanac, Kansas hosted it yearly Christmas kickoff and the city seems to be the first city in the area to host such a Christmas event. Mayor Jim Kennedy said, “Frontenac made the decision more than a decade ago when the Christmas kickoff got started in 1997.” The kickoff began with a group of Frontenac students singing Christmas carols, Mayor Kennedy flicked the switch on a large number of lights in the downtown Frontenac area. But the finally was when the students sang and Santa Claus rode into the area on a big fire truck, with a big wave of his hand he led the more than 200 plus crowd inside for hot chocolate and sugar cookies.
I was so excited to read this article, it started out festive, and it ended so. These are the kind of articles I really enjoy reading. It excited me to hear the touch of the past. People are not in their houses warm and cozy watching the football game on television, they were all gathered to see a jolly ole soul coming down the road in a fire truck.
I enjoyed reading this article on http://www.morningsun.net/featured/x215412351/Frontenac-hosts-Christmas-kickoff it was festive, and it kept the spirit of the holidays. There were no doom and gloom, there was no death or dismemberment, there was no missing persons or items, and it was all happy, festive and kept the concept as such through the complete article. “Every year we try to add on to the park and the lights in the city,” Kennedy said. “We think we’re getting all types together here. With the singing and everything, it just makes everyone so close-knit, from the teeny ones who can’t even walk to the 80-year-olds.” The mayor had a deep moment realizing the spirit of Christmas runs in any age touches most all souls. “I love it when all the little kids from the high school come out on a Sunday night when the Chiefs are playing to come sing reindeer songs,” Kennedy said. “It’s just something that a small town can do. A large town, I don’t believe could do this as easily as we can do it.” Mr. Kennedy made the comment that I was really touched by and was very factual about large towns not having this kind of spirit of a small town such as Frontenac.
It is wonderful to find a town that has kept the spirit of Christmas alive and beating as a human heart. This mayor and town holds the spirit and keeps it alive with each year that passes. The mayor might have been actually honest as his acknowledging the city’s touch, of young and old towns’ people at the Christmas kickoff. As you drive through the town looking at each pole with decorations of Christmas you actually feel the true meaning of what it’s all about. The small town atmosphere spills over as you see the smiles of its town folk and this can take you back to before Christmas became so commercial. The day that Christmas was about giving and not receiving, when people where there for their neighbors and family, not having to worry about what would be said or possibly a lawsuit for helping someone. Frontenac, Kansas is a small town with an old fashion atmosphere, a place to raise your children.

Alec Baldwin says lost interest in acting, will soon quit
Actor Alec Baldwin age 51 years old was interviewed for Men’s Journal to feature in the December issue. Alec feels that his film career was a complete failure, although he was in many films such as Bettlejuice, It’s Complicated, 30 Rock and The Hunt for Red October and The Cooler. Mr. Baldwin was chosen to co-host the 2010 Oscar ceremonies. He also told Playboy Magazine this year that he was, “done,” with his career in 2012 and would retire at “30 Rock’s” wrap party. Alec also stated, “I consider my entire movie career a complete failure," he told Men's Journal. "The goal of movie-making is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that." Mr. Baldwin also expressed interest in politics in the past but did not say in the interview what he intended to do should he quit acting.
The Baldwin’s have really done well in the acting business, as I read this article at http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reuters.com/alec-baldwin-says-lost-interest-acting-will-soon-quit-reuters . I realized that his expectation of what he thought his career should have been and actually was seemed to be two complete and totally different levels. This article was a bit disappointing as to my expectation of what Alec Baldwin has to offer the camera and what he will offer the camera which isn’t very much more than what he has already delivered.
Alec Baldwin was born April 3, 1958 and raised in Massapequa, NY along with his brothers Daniel, Stephen and William and sister’s Jane and Elizabeth. This article states from Alec, “I don’t have any interest in acting anymore; movies are a part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.” It amazes me how this man seems to think that his career was a failure when his name is known in homes everywhere. I can’t imagine having expectations of such proportion as this man does of his acting career to feel such disappointment with such effort. I was so excited to read any information regarding the Baldwin’s, but when I read this well disappointment sit in. This announcement has been made several times in the past, so if this comes to fruition then it will be interesting how it will actually end or if the end has a, “To be continued.”
Alec Baldwin also appeared on the daytime soap, “The Doctors,” on NBC between the years of 1980-1982, as said on http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800019239/bio. Along with the crazy preacher on, “Knots Landing,” on CBS in between 1979-1993 and “Married to the Mob,” in 1988 or “Working Girl,” in 1988 or the retro musical, “Talk Radio.” It was also announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be co-hosting the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010. What a pair, I am excited about seeing them working together announcing the Academy Awards. There were many other special guest appearances that Alec preformed in such as Saturday Night Live, or The View, and Nip Tuck. Alec was born in Amityville, New York and has performed as an actor, director, producer, voice actor, driver, gas station attendant, shirt salesman and finally a waiter. I share this with you to enlighten you that he is human as well as anyone else in this world. He started from nothing and became something, not born with a silver spoon but earned the spoon instead. This family has been touched by tragedy as well as normal folks that are not blessed by a movie career, the loss of his father from lung cancer in 1983 and a blessing that his mother being a breast cancer survivor. If this announcement is true and final, then I say farewell, Alec you will be missed.

New Moon banks at box office
This is the second film in the block buster series and did double what Twilight opened with of only sixty nine million dollars. As said on http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/11/22/boxoffice.newmoon.ew/index.html ,
New Moon took first place in the box office with bringing in over one hundred forty point seven million dollars on the midnight showing of this block buster; this being the third biggest weekend opening in movie history. With more than eighty percent of the tickets were sold to women. Still nothing seems to beat, “The Dark Knight,” with a whopping record of one hundred fifty eight point four million on its first weekend. Although the vampire and werewolf combo still held its own with the second day of showing bringing in a stellar sixty nine point six million. Noted in http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/22/eveningnews/main5739857.shtml this movie was targeted for more the teenage audience and with much surprise, the audience was as filled with the middle age criteria of forty something as well. New Moons midnight opening grossed in twice the amount of Twilights weekend debut. Cathy Plume a moviegoer states, “"We laugh about how silly it is to be captured by this movie," said Plume, who is not exactly a high school student.” Those devoted fans of New Moon will wait patiently in the dark, silent, waiting to pounce as those they love do on the screen, waiting for the next movie opening in June.
My excitement to read these two articles in regards to what I had seen with millions of other women and young girls this weekend. The movie critics need to learn what the moviegoers want and not want but what they think is presentable. Look at Harry Potter, sold millions as well, never a bomb always a money maker. Again, New Moon leaves you wanting more, and more and more.
"The movie is about teenagers and aimed at teenagers. Yet the theaters are filled with 40-somethings,” Meg Symington stated. I was one of many, many forty something’s in that auditorium theatre and it was packed. I agree with, “Everybody remembers their high school love, their first crush, the emotion of it all," Symington said. "I think even at our age we can relate to that." I strongly agree with Meg that we all can remember our first love; this is what connects us to what we are watching even more. Edward, Jacob, Jasper, Emit and Carlisle show passion and romance something as of today that is pretty much extinct. Women desire this that is lacking in society among many other things in our time, and this movie is picture proof of what I am saying is correct.
The movies, Twilight and New Moon are one of a few movies involving vampires. This touch of the old era and the touch of the kids of today in the new era brings the younger generation into show as well. Whether it is werewolf or vampire, whether it is a teenage girl or a middle age woman, we all desire the same. The men of today are not getting the real picture as to what attracts a woman to movies such as Twilight or New Moon or as far as that goes True Blood on HBO. I have listened and watched the men in amazement as to the wonderment of why all the different aged women are so connected, so attracted, so drawn to such a story. I guess my question is don’t you think they need to look, listen, and learn as to what all the commotion is about? The statement I’m relaying could have even been the answer to many divorces over the years; women are yearning for the days of chivalry. The days the doors were held open, the day’s women were treated with dignity and respect, the days of passion and true love. The day’s women were honored and adored. Please don’t get me wrong this is not about male bashing, this is about what women are yearning and obviously starving for. The days of yesteryear were men were men and women were loved, adored and cared for. Is there a message in all this science-fiction that needs to be understood more than Bella and Edward and there undying love for one another as Jacob sits helpless from afar? I don’t know you tell me.
New Advice: Skip mammograms in 40’s, start at 50
Most women don’t need mammograms in their 40’s and should get on every other year starting at 50 years old. This is completely backwards to what American Cancer Society’s thoughts and position in regards of this subject. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force regarding this subject states that women should stop doing self breast examinations. The twenty years the cancer society has recommended women to get their first mammogram starting at the age of forty. Now a government panel of doctors and scientists has came to the conclusion that being screened for cancer so early and so often can only lead to unneeded biopsies and false alarms with no improvement of any odds on surviving. As Dr. Diana Petitti, vice chair of the panel, “The benefits are less and the harms are greater when screening starts in the 40’s.” The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has a lot of pull with Medicare and many other insurance companies as to these new guidelines. Dr. Len Lichtenfeld, the cancer society’s deputy chief medical officer states, “Our concern is that as a result of this confusion, women may elect not to get screened at all. And that, to me, would be a serious problem.” These new guidelines are for general population not for those at high risk of breast cancer because of family history or gene mutations. The new advice says:
*Most women in their 40s should not get mammograms routinely.
*Women 50-74 should get mammograms every other year until they turn 75, which after that the risks and benefits are unknown.
*The value of breast exams by doctors is unknown. Self exams are of no help.
Dr. Otis Brawley states, “This is one screening test I recommend unequivocally, and would recommend to any woman 40 and over.” Dr. Brawley also wrote , the task force has based its advice on the conclusion of a screening of 1300 woman in their 50s saving one life is worth it, but the 1900 women in the 40s to save a life is not worth it? The new guidelines balance these risks and benefits, the possibility of dying of breast cancer after age 40 is 3 percent, they calculate. Getting a mammogram every other year from ages 50-69 lowers that risk by about 16 percent. Just starting at the age of 40 would prevent a death but would lead to 470 false alarms for every 1000 women screened. Mammograms’ continuing through the age of 79 years prevents three deaths but increases the number of treated women that would not decrease or even threaten their lives.
As I was reading I found myself sick to my stomach not knowing if it was from something I ate or if it was from what I was reading on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091116/ap_on_he_me/us_med_mammogram_advice. The further I read this article; I was unsure if I was happy or upset. My feelings in the beginning were pure rage. A woman should decide what to do with her body, when to have it checked out or not, I honestly feel this in no way should be left to our government.
As in the article, “that in most women, tumors are slow- growing, and that all likelihood increases with age.” So my issue with this screening is that they are labeling women in general with the same criteria. No woman is the same, as should not be compared to be so. This article was very difficult for me to write as I had such feelings of anger with these so called scientists and doctors that are willing to take women’s lives in their hands just from a test of certain proportion. As said so eloquently, “A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance,” Saul Bellow. The only thing in this article that kept me in some agreeance was that it states that this is for the general population of woman, no in regards to women at high risk. So I ask you, is ignorance bliss? Not when it comes to your own body, should it not be your decision as to have yourself examined or to have yourself tested should be a decision made by you not by your doctor or your government. As found in http://www.iredellmemorial.org/uploadedFiles/Centers_of_Excellence/Womens_Services/Spirit_of_Women/OCT09_HQ_Factsheet.pdf it states, “Over two million female breast cancer survivors are alive today. Although more people are diagnosed with breast cancer now, fewer die from the disease. The main reason: women have overcome their fears, and have sought regular exams and mammograms leading to early detection, which generally leads to early treatment – when it can achieve the best results. Women who are diagnosed while breast cancer is still confined to the primary site have a five-year survival rate of over 98%!” So if the general population is what this task force is concentrating, one area of women that are not at high risk, wait to do self examinations until 20 years of age, and wait to do your first mammogram till 40 years of age. Now they are saying wait until 50-74 years of age. With this said, I ask you how will this survey, this test that the Task Force came up with, how will it help a young girl named Hannah Auslam a 10 year old girl with breast cancer. To be precise she has is Secretory Carcinoma, a rare form that less than one in a million is diagnosed. In http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/11-year-youngest-breast-cancer-survivors/story?id=8782697 because of her young age and the rareness of the type of cancer, her doctors are finding it very difficult to find her a treatment that is age appropriate. My Point Exactly!! April Hannah become the country’s youngest breast cancer survivor, she received her last chemotherapy treatment this fall and was tested with no detectable cancer found.
Taylor Thompson 13 years old, of Little Rock, Arkansas has aggressive form of breast cancer, the kind that has a 98 percent chance of returning, she will undergo surgery in June. As found in http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/10/26/tweens.breast.cancer/index.html Hannah and Taylors cases are rare, breast cancer is emerging more and more in the younger generation, a lot younger than 40 or 50 years of age as recommended. Dr. Marisa Weiss, founder of www.breastcancer.org states, “The breast is the only organ in men and women that are formed after you’re born.” Breast cancer could theoretically occur in any age or gender. Seven percent of breast cancer cases occur in patients under the age of forty. Taylor would have been in the category of general public, there is no family history of breast cancer in the family. I have found this article to be personal, as a woman over forty and a family history rippled with cancer in both my parents, mostly all my aunts and uncles and have had all my grandparents diagnosed with some sort of cancer from skin cancer to colon, kidney, lung, bone, prostate. I have educated myself and continue educating myself as to the types, causes, longevity and treatment of different types of cancers. To turn a blind eye, and to generalize the public, women, or men is turning a blind eye to watching many of our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters or even fathers, grandfathers, brothers or spouses. Watching the intense pain my father went through trying to live through his cancer daily, or yearly makes you check your possibilities and knowing your body. As my father lost my mother at a young age of 58 years old, he lost his best friend, his soul mate, and as he put it, “His right hand.” This is a death that is beyond painful for the victim or the people that are connected to that particular life. Each life is connected to many others, the pain doesn’t stop at the cancer victim, it carries on for a life time for anyone that cares. Each day that I take my father to his cancer treatment center, I watch what he goes through, I hear his pain, and I see the chemicals fill this man’s body. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have my daughter at the age of 10 or 13 years old to have cancer, breast cancer is even more unbelievable at that age. To know the pain on a personal side of cancer is a horrific thing no person should ever endure, but to hear that the government is trying to tell women and men to stop personal self breast examinations and to delay mammograms by another ten years is beyond understanding. I feel that it follows more along financial recession issues then thinking that women don’t have breast cancer at a young age. Should a person not be more cautious of their own body then to find out by putting off testing that a young life is cut short do to late determination of cancer? Does that not fall under the concept rather be safe than sorry? Can the, “U.S. Preventive Services Task Force”, look a mother in the eyes and tell her, “I am sorry, the numbers didn’t see this, and she is an extreme rare case.” It is my body and I honestly feel that it is my decision to make and absolutely not the government!

Woman Attacked by Chimp Reveals Face
A two hundred pound chimpanzee attacked woman from Connecticut last February reveals her disfigured face for the first time on CBS. She is blind and has to eat through a straw, but with all this she states that she isn’t angry. Her positive attitude shown on Oprah Winfree Show was that she has not time to look back but only time to look forward to healing. On February 16th the owner Sandra Herold, asked Charla Nash to help her to lure the chimp back into her house in Stamford, Connecticut. The chimp tore off Charla’s hands, nose and eyelids. The police shot and killed the chimp, and Charla Nash is still in Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Only a few weeks ago Ms. Nash was told she no longer has her eye sight, Charla doesn’t remember anything about the attack and at this time doesn’t want to.
I felt horrible for this woman; her life is forever changed by this one incident. To be able to see all the beautiful colors in the world one day and not see nothing and forever scared the next. She seems to be strong and has the right attitude unlike most people in today’s society.
My thoughts of this article I found at www.cbsnews.com did change from when I started reading it until the end. I had such sympathy for this woman struggling now in life from this horrible animal assault. Then I came to be impressed, astounded, and amazed as to her will and determination not to let this stop her from living. I know several people after I read this article said, “I would hide in my house in hopes to die.” Most of all the comments I heard was along the same line, “I would give up and hide.” People that keep exotic animals should be fined; exotic animals belong in the wild or in zoo’s not in people’s houses and such. And these types of animals should only be handled by professionals that have had special training. This would incident would of never happened if a professional would have been there with protective gear and devices that would of secured the well being of the owner and others including the professional. My heart and soul goes out to this woman and I hope she stays strong and determined to not allow this to ruin her life.

King Tut’s Tomb to Get Makeover
The famous Tomb of Tutankhamun will be under restoration for five years to clean up and restore the marvelous wall paintings. The paintings and artifacts along with the golden mask of the boy king has astounded the world since 1922. That is when the British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of the boy king. The project of the restoration is with the combined work of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities and Los Angeles based Getty Conservation Institute which in the past have restored other tombs nearby and designing a case to display the mummies. This tomb is visited by thousands of people every month, this brings the humidity and the heat which damages the more than 3,000 year old tomb. There are questions that pertain to wondering how he died at such a young age. With this being said, they have removed King Tut from his tomb and was placed in a portable CT Scanner for a 15 minute CT scan to get a three dimensional image. This was the first done on any Egyptian mummy. The end results were King Tut was violently murdered, but could not come up with a definitive conclusion of how he died around 1323 B.C.
Reading of history and new findings of history as on this article found at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories has always captured my attention. To hear that there are still people who care enough to try to preserve what was then for the future, to understand and learn is wonderful. I was interested and intrigued to read about how this restoration is planned to preserve what has taught and awed by thousands of people that travel to The Valley Of The Kings. I think you could say my outlook on this article changed I was curious to see what information they had of King Tut, and happy when I was done reading it to hear of the effort to save the artifacts.
This is my point, as you can read from Zahi Hawass he is in concern of the deterioration of the tomb and all that is in it. It isn’t about what we can bring to the museums but what can be kept as it was where it is. “I always see the tomb of King Tut and wonder about those spots, which no scientist has been able to explain," said Zahi Hawass, the head of the SCA, in a statement.
I found this to be an intriguing article of modern science. To know that our technology today can put this mummy in a glass air tight container to keep any chemicals or weathering from deteriorating the skeleton any further, leaves me somewhat speechless. This was also fascinating reading as for the pictures of the scientist actually in the process of removing the mummy and the last picture of what to be a possible resemblance of King Tut. I honestly feel that when you put a face or a figure to a story then it helps many people see and understand what was or might have been. I can’t imagine the tension in the air as the scientist removed the boy king from his place of rest. I wished this article offered more on its reading then it did as my anticipation grew with every sentence.

Parsons bow hunter takes down a 225 pound, 23 point buck
On Tuesday, November 3, 2009; Josh Root an avid deer hunter shot and killed a twenty three point buck weighing in over 225 pounds. The Boone and Crockett Club, a national hunting organization, says Root’s deer will be scored as a non-typical white tail deer and will most likely be rated in the top ten in Kansas. Mr. Root has decided to donate the two hundred twenty five pounds of meat to the Erie Meat Locker for the Feed the Needy program. As I read the articles on www.fox14tv.com it states that nothing can be official until the antlers are dried for scoring. Mr. Root started a hunting company called Titan Productions and Design and is hoping that this kill will help the company live up to its name.
It was exciting as I read about this hunt, knowing I used to be a hunter. The more I read this article the more my heart raced and I could feel the adrenalin rush through my body, knowing how he felt. Mr. Root did a wonderful job by donating the meat from this hunt to the Erie Meat Locker to feed the needy. It is sad for the loss of life, but all those who will profit from its death is fantastic.
After hearing the weight of this deer, knowing the estimated size of the antlers, I agreed this deer was an elder. It was intelligent as Mr. Root so well stated. "A deer of this magnitude is a smart deer," Root says. "They become nocturnal and it's just very rare to see them and if you do see them it's a moment that you, you're down to the wire, you need to make it happen or it's just going to pass you and it's just going to be a dream that you talk about to most people and I didn't want it to be a dream." Deer meat (venison is a broader term that also applies to meat from elk, moose, caribou and antelope) is healthier than beef. A three-ounce serving provides only 134 calories and three grams of fat, including only one gram of saturated fat. Beef gives you 259 calories for the same three-ounce serving, and 18 grams of fat, including seven grams of saturated fat.
I have many family members including myself that believes in hunting deer. It isn’t for sport; it is for food, to feed the families in the surrounding areas including our own. There is deer jerky, deer burgers, and many, many, other ways of cooking deer. I have found the gamey taste is easily disguised, with seasonings found in your cabinet. We have come to learn there is a disorder in deer called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), this is a disease a lot like Mad Cow Disease. With that being said there are things that you can be aware of to ensure you don’t eat an infected deer such as; Don’t eat the eyes, brain, spinal cord, spleen, tonsils or lymph nodes of any deer; Wear rubber gloves when dressing or butchering a deer; Bone out the meat, remove all the fat and the web like membranes attached to the meat; if you question the deer to be sick you can bring samples of the venison in to wildlife officials for testing.
Ford Says inflatable seat belt improves safety, comfort, too
For almost a decade Ford has been working on the reality of protecting the rear seat passengers a bit more than they are now. The inflatable seat belt will be coming out as a option on the next- generation in the new Ford Explorers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says only 83% of front seat passengers buckle up on a regular basis in 2008 versus 74% of rear seat passengers. Sue Cischke, group vice president of sustainability, environmental and safety engineering, states; “"It feels a lot different; it's softer and more lightly woven and when we asked people to sample them, they said it feels less rigid and more comfortable.” The new belts expand like an air bag in accidents or any type of crash. The belts will distribute the force over more of the chest area, so it is less concentrated in one area. This has been a project in the making since 2001; it has survived the financial issues in 2005 when ford disposed of thousands of employees. Srini Sundararajan, technical leader of Ford’s research and advanced engineering division, "We've developed so much technology for the front-seat occupants, we want to bring some of these advanced technologies from the front seat to the rear seat.”
I was very happy to hear as I read this article that they are trying to protect our precious cargo we all carry in the back seats of our vehicles, children, parents, grandparents. These are all things that should be as protected as we who drive them. My excitement after reading this article didn’t change if anything it allows me to have hope for the future cars and passengers.
As Mr. Sundararajan stated, “It's a vulnerable population, like elderly and children, who sit back there. And we believe this is the best way to enhance safety for the rear-seat occupants,” this gives us all hope that when the worst happens there is a bit more protection for all. This was a wonderful article to read and it made me very happy to hear the advances for the future is constantly being perfected.
The more I read this article that I found on http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2009-11-05-ford-inflatable-seat-belts_N.htm it made my hopes for my grandchildren and my future great children will have a little more protection than I did or my children did. It amazes me what new things are invented as each day passes. I would like to see the automobile companies come out with a little bit longer seat belts for the larger society of

Verizon doubling early termination fees
A lock-in, have you ever heard of one? Sure you have, Apple has it, Verizon, iPod, or AT&T; they all have this. It is a contract usually lasting for twenty four months not allowing you to leave and go to another cell phone company without paying a large fee called a ETF, translation; Early Termination Fee. This fee on the most usually runs one hundred dollars or so, but for some reason, November 15, 2009 Verizon will be charging a whopping amount of three hundred fifty dollars for your ETF, per the Boy Genius Report. Although Verizon does offer a small incentive, for every month of your contract fulfilled, the company knocks ten dollars off the ETF. What a deal huh? Well if you think about it, if you cancel on your twenty third month of a twenty four month contract your still paying a one hundred twenty dollar termination fee, now tell me that don’t hurt?
I was floored as to the amount they want you to pay to cancel early. With the economy the way it is, how do they expect people to come up with that kind of money? Before I read this article my husband and I was contemplating on moving our service from T-Mobile to Verizon, no way will I do this now. The more I read this article the more upset I got, it amazes me how the conglomerates think they have the right to rob the public so arrogantly.
I have had a cell phone for years, and this termination fee has been there for years in all companies it is nothing new. As the article stated, “Every carrier has one: If you want to get out of your contract early, you'll pay at least a hundred bucks for the privilege.” This is something we all who own a cell phone accepts and signs contract to prove this. But to charge the public three hundred fifty dollars is beyond ludicrous. I find this amount offensive and I only hope that this is read and told to many of this amount to keep the many from making a fatal mistake.
Cell phones, as stated by; http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/154280 have termination fees, this is something common. And some early termination fees can be are always painful to the pocket. But cell phones don’t have to be as bad as credit cards; we don’t have to go in debt to have one or to keep one. This company is not trying to help stop the recession but instead it looks as to be assisting it. They may be able to keep that customer most the time for the two years with their horrific ETF fee, but you can bet this won’t be good for their reputation. Word of mouth can be very damaging for a company no matter their size. I think this is a very dumb move on behalf of Verizon, you could say they are getting a little too big for their britches to think something as this won’t affect them. Time will tell.

Police determine teen missing since 1954 was slain
A Jane Doe buried in Colorado 55 years ago, is found to be Dorothy Gay Howard, who disappeared from Arizona and her family has been looking for her since. Marlene Howard Ashman, the last living member of the immediate family was the sister of Dorothy Howard. As Marlene stated, “All these 55 years, I guess I learned as a child to put it in an abstract form so I could deal with it; It’s easier to accept.” Boulder County Sheriff’s Detective Steve Ainsworth, which is the lead investigator in the existing case, stated Dorothy died of a blunt-force trauma. Her body was found a week after the murder, the nearby animals had destroyed any identifying marks as fingers and face. Ainsworth believes that the evidence found so far is leading to the serial killer Harvey Glatman, who was executed in 1959 in California. Glatman had confessed to killing three women, he also served time in the Colorado state prison for assaults on women, which one was only one fourth of a mile from where Ms. Howards body was found. Do to the marks on her body, and reviewing evidence that was at the scene; the theory is Dorothy Howard tried getting away and Glatman hit her with his car. It is up to Ainsworth to prove this theory now. Marlene said her sister was extremely strong-willed and lived quite a life in her 18 years, including married twice. “Once she decided on a course, it would take heaven and earth to stop her.”
This story was fascinating; I found it to be most interesting. When I was done my first thought was that poor woman all those years not knowing if her sister abandoned her, was she dead, alive? Then my thoughts rush to Dorothy the victim of this tragic circumstance, the pain, knowing that she is a fighter, you know this woman didn’t go down without a fight. I was saddened for Marlene her sister and happy also that there is partial closer if anything for Dorothy.
The worry, the wondering of this is only half over, as Ainsworth stated, “"We know who she is, but there's still another mystery and that may be the biggest mystery of all, and that's who did it.” This is what got my gut just turning, the unknown. I am the type of person that can take anything on as long as I know it is coming, but to be Marlene and always wonder, never knowing. Then one day out of the blue to know only half, to me that would be as dangling food over a starving person’s mouth. “I want more!”
I am not the type of person to lie, there is several times my sister and I have not gotten along in any manner. We are different in many ways, physical, mental, educational, responsibility. But that makes us human. The more I read this article on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_discovering_jane_doe the angrier I got, the more I felt Marlene’s pain. How can you get justice from a man who is already dead, how can you close this? When they finish their investigation and possibly connect her to the Glatman murders, there will be some serious healing for her. It is sad this case wasn’t closed 55 years ago, it is sad our technology was not advanced enough to solve this crime at the time it was committed. My condolences go out to Dorothy Howards family for their loss and for their many years of worrying. Also, congratulation goes out to Steve Ainsworth for the determination in helping this poor woman find her way home.

McPrank: 4 teens cited for Mc Donald’s rap
Four teens were cited for disorderly conduct after rapping their order over the intercom at a Mc Donald’s drive up. The teenagers were mocking a video they found on YouTube. Spenser Dauwalder the 18 year old and three friends 17 years old, were told that they were holding up the line. To give his order or leave, Spenser stated that there was nobody in line but them. Ultimately the boys left without buying anything. The manager of the Mc Donald’s wrote the vehicles’ tag number down and called the police. The employees did ask the teens several times to speak plainly. The American Fork Police officer Sgt. Gregg Ludlow found the teens at a high school parking lot outside of a volleyball match. The citation the boys received was no more than an infraction, a lot like a speeding ticket. This is given to people that does something to cause an annoyance or an alarm to others.
I was happy to hear that society is stepping up instead of stepping back on allowing teenagers to conduct themselves in public with manners. It is wonderful to see that some areas in the United States are not allowing this kind of disturbance and horrible behavior. I think they were given ample enough ability to do what was right by speaking in the manner that the person inside could understand what they were saying.
I do feel that the employee should in no manner of felt threatened unless one of the teens threatened them personally. As the article on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33541983/ns/us_news-weird_news/ "The employee in question felt that her safety was at risk as a result of the alleged actions of these individuals in the drive-thru, not as a result of them rapping their order," franchisee Conny Kramer said in the statement. "As such, she contacted the local authorities.” I found to be interesting if this was true of they just wanted to make an example of the kids for others not to behave so.
But Sharon Dauwalder, Spenser's mother, said they will fight it nonetheless. "We have to," she told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The citation is there." This is the type of parents that allow this kind of behavior from kids. I will agree once the boy reached 18 years old your pretty done as to what you can get them to act like and what you can’t. But to condone the behavior goes to say, makes you wonder where the boy got the concept that acting as such is acceptable. Our society today constricts parents to do half the things they used to do to control their children. I was raised as the old saying goes, “This hurts me as much as it does you.” I was not abused I was disciplined, I was taught how to act in public when mom and dad was there and when they weren’t. I agree this is a small issue that was made into a big issue, but it is something that should have never been allowed to have happened and shouldn’t be condoned to be acceptable.

Military plane, helicopter collide off California
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Navy was searching until early hours on Friday on October 23rd for as many as nine bodies do to a collision. This collision involved a Coast Guard plane and a Marine Corps helicopter. The crash was reported to be at 7:10pm Thursday only fifty miles off the San Diego County coast. There were seven people on the C-130 that was involved in the crash and two on the helicopter. Debris from the C-130 has been spotted by the Coast Guard. A search was planned to last though out the night, with the aid of three cutters and diverting an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to search for any survivors. The Navy assisted with four vessels and multiple helicopters.
I was so devastated to read such a thing, it is bad enough to lose our men in the war, but to lose them on a training accident brings the reality of this article to such a form I was in tears. Knowing my niece is headed for boot camp in December brings this even closer to home for me. All we can do is support our women and men over there and all those at home in all they do.
This is in regards to 9 lives affected by many, many other lives. You’re not just reading statistics your reading about 9 brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons or daughters, grandsons, or granddaughters, these are lives that will not return on their own, but return in the flagged draped boxes. A pilot reported seeing a fireball near where the aircraft collided, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said, and the Coast Guard informed the FAA that debris from a C-130 had been spotted. Seven people were on board the plane, a C-130, and two people were aboard the helicopter, said Petty Officer Allyson Conroy.
It saddens me to see the women and men lost in battle, friendly fire, or training accidents trying to prepare for any overseas maneuvers. Life is difficult enough as it is to try to survive during our recession age we are in, but to lose such brave souls as these men and women on a training accident saddens me more. I am comforted to know that such a search of mass proportions was launched for these unfortunate victims. We all have our opinion in regards to whether we think we should be at war still or at all. As I read more on this article from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_midair_collision it reminded me that no one is exempt from not coming home for any reason. My prayers go out to the families of the ones we have lost in the war and in friendly fire or in training accidents.

Obama declares swine flu a national emergency
President Obama declared the swine flu a national emergency; this gives the health secretary the ability to suspend federal guidelines at hospitals. This will suspend federal guidelines at hospitals and will speed up on how infected people are treated in a disaster. This allows hospitals to increase their speed of treatment by not requiring giving as much information during a hectic time. This declaration allows the Health and Human Services to let hospitals relocate emergency rooms off the site to reduce any cross contamination and to protect any non-infected flu patients. "As a nation, we have prepared at all levels of government, and as individuals and communities, taking unprecedented steps to counter the emerging pandemic," Obama wrote in the declaration. He said the pandemic keeps evolving, the rates of illness are rising rapidly in many areas and there's a potential "to overburden health care resources." The swine flu is more widespread than first thought. Health specialist stated almost 100 children have died from H1N1, which are infected 46 states now. Since the H1N1 was first announced in the beginning of the year there has been over 5,000 deaths worldwide according to the World Health Organization. This figure is rightfully underestimated by a large number do to the fact most countries have stopped counting individual cases of this flu strand.
I as everyone else have been in fear of seeing my children or grandchildren come down with this flu. Our attention to personal hygiene was important prior but has increased since this outbreak. This story doesn’t change my thought prior, during or before my reading it. I am a bit happier that the president has stepped up and started the process of doing whatever it takes to make sure that the people that are infected get the treatment they need to hopefully conquer this medical issue and to protect those that do not have this flu.
After seeing the children on the news that fought so gallantly for their lives against this flu, and won, makes me feel better knowing they are sending out vaccinations in November and December. According to Philip Elliott of Associated Press, “The government now hopes to have about 50 million doses of swine flu vaccine out by mid-November and 150 million in December.”
The fear is not unjust, and to state that the world is Paranoid is not out of context. This could be another Black Plague, which was at its peak during 1348-1350 taking 30-60 percent of Europe’s population. The further I read this article on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091024/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_swine_flu the more paranoid of germs I became. To compare the H1N1 to the Black Plague is something I don’t think is too farfetched. Knowing how the population as of today has dropped do to this Pandemic is not quite as dramatic as the drop in the population do to the Plague from estimated 450 million to 350 million are numbers not too far out of reach. To protect yourself against such things as the flu, or virus’s people need to learn to keep their hands washed, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. These are items that I have for years hated to see people do in public or at work, if you have to cough or sneeze, please oh please cover your mouth I don’t want whatever you have. If you can stay at home when you’re this sick, this is one of the few times when Mom said, “Share honey!” she didn’t mean your germs.

Report Finds Lapses in Handling of G.I. Accused of Murders in Iraq
Sergeant John Russell, 44, a 15 year service man in the Army, was in his first year of his third deployment to Iraq. Mr. Russell had visited the stress clinic located on Camp Liberty; this was where he was being counseled. United States military investigators said in a report, Sgt. Russell had been behaving erratically for weeks — even threatening to commit suicide — but a lack of adequate guidelines on how to handle his case allowed it to get out of control, United States military investigators said in a report. Sgt. Russell had visited the stress clinic four times before the shootings, but there were no guidelines for someone in this mental state. Members of his unit were concerned enough they took it upon themselves to put a watch on him during the evening. Sgt. Russell’ unit commander took it upon his self to remove the bolt from his weapon three days prior to the incident. Sgt. Russell stole a M-16 rifle and a vehicle from one of the M.P.’s that was assigned to return him to his unit after an altercation at the clinic. Although the M.P. reported immediately of his vehicle being stolen and his weapon and the Sergeant was on his way to the clinic in a very agitated state. Sgt. Russell opened fire on three patients and two staff members one of which was a Navy commander.
This story ripped my heart out, knowing this man had went for help time and time again. My ex-husband was in the military so I got a close up as to how the military works. I know the war is horrible, and I know the horrible casualties that lie within it. The system is in dire need of revamping and this incident is exactly the proof that there needs to be change now. The fact that the report even states the chase with Sgt. Russell was disorganized proves my point, unable to establish telephone or radio contact with one another.
The Sergeant, “stated the he had several doctors and they had all made him angry, that one of them made fun of him, one of them mocked him, and that this doctor had just made him angry. If you can’t help me then I will just kill myself.” I personally think that a statement as such would warrant to stepping up and locking this man up until someone can reach the obviously unreachable person that has to authorize his detention. This situation was able to be avoided and the fact it wasn’t shows there is room for improvement. And as it was so well stated in http://www.nytimes.com many of the report’s recommendations have already been carried out, stated by a military spokesmen
With our men and women risking their lives then I think this issue should be addressed and solved immediately before any other fatalities occur. My heart goes out to those lost, either in battle or friendly fire.

Body of Florida girl believed found in landfill
Located in Orange Park, Florida the local authorities have possibly found the body of Somer Thompson, 7 years of age. The identification of Somer at this time is her clothing and a birthmark, all matching the mothers’ description. Georgia Landfill is near the Florida state line and there Somer Thompson was to stay hidden until detectives spotted her legs firs and found the body partially covered in trash. The police department has questioned over, 70 registered sex offenders in the surrounding area and have records of 161 offenders that live in a five mile radius of Somers home. Laura Holt the aunt to Somer, stated, “I don’t think they deserve to live, I don’t think there’s anything worse that a person can do – to kill a child and dump her in the dump like a piece of trash?”
It scares me to death to think that people think so little of a life to treat it and dispose of it as such. The tears ran from my eyes like rain from the sky. How can someone take something as precious and innocent as a child? My thoughts haven’t changed much after reading the article in www.usatoday.com in regards this article if anything it has gotten worst.
My opinion regarding this horrible act is no different than the Aunt Laura Holt, “I don’t think here is anything worse that a person can do - to kill a child and dump it like it was trash.” How can anyone treat a child as such or just human life? The more I read this article I could feel my blood pressure raise and my face get red with anger. My thought in regards to the criminal that did such a heinous crime is that sooner or later you will make a mistake and you will be brought to justice. Not the kind of justice you deserve but the kind you have a right to. Unlike the child they killed, the murderer will have their day in court. There is no justice in this by any means. Why should we the tax payer pay to house and feed and clothe people that have no regards for human life. They should be treated as though they treated their victims.
Personally the justice system over the years has gotten too lapsed in the United States. I feel that rapist, child molesters, baby murders all should be put to death with no day in court. I don’t want to hear excuses that she had postnatal depression, and that is why she killed her baby. I don’t want to hear that his dad raped him when he was younger and he became a priest and carried on dad’s tradition. I want to see and hear raw justice for high intense crimes, involving death and rape or even kidnapping with intent to harm. Whoever came up with the concept of life in prison without parole should be shot themselves. Just put them on death row, and start cleaning house, quite lollygagging. Expecting the government and the general public to support, lodge and feed the same criminals that have inflicted such danger on their well being is ludicrous.

Frontenac man a hero after risking his life to save an infant
On Thursday afternoon the owner of A. Lusker Masonry, was working at a church across the street from a home on fire. The volunteer fire department responded to a call by Mr. Lusker. He ran across the street to see if he could be of any assistance. Two women were standing in the front yard and one was screaming in fear her baby was inside the home. Without a thought, Mr. Lusker ran into the home twice unsuccessfully in finding the baby he tried one last time. As Mr. Flora the Frontenac Police Chief stated in regards to Mr. Lusker, “If Adam wouldn’t have went in when he did and found the child I think that the smoke would have overcame so bad that we would have not ever got in to get him.” The fire department says they will continue to investigate the fire. On the good side, the baby was discharged from the hospital. Mr. Lusker will be recognized for his step of bravery at the next upcoming city council meeting.
I first was floored as I read this article knowing that people in general are not as heroic as Mr. Lusker. People are more self preserving in this age as to previous years. This was a very selfless act on behalf of Mr. Lusker, knowing the fact he is a father of three children and had a lot to lose by being hurt or killed trying to rescue this baby.
Most people would of thought well of Mr. Lusk for just the small act of picking up the phone, and calling in the fire. The real change of thought and reaction on my behalf on humanity in general is his humble attitude in regards to it all, “I was just in the right place at the right time on Thursday.” This made me change my thought about the human race as it was; my outlook was very bleak before this, “Hero,” stepped into the news. I am excited to think that people like this man actually exist, that step up to the plate and show compassion for your fellow human beings.
Chivalry isn’t dead!! As I read this article located on www.fox14tv.com I was shown by this man’s actions that compassionate, caring people still exist in this world. When you think there is no one out there that cares if people are in pain, or in need. This man has a heart, and there aren’t too many people in this world with such heroic standards. He deserves to be recognized for his actions. Maybe, more people women and men alike will learn from Mr. Lusker’s actions. With everything to lose and nothing to gain, Mr. Lusker thought nothing of his own well being and only of the baby. So to you A. Lusker, my hats off to you, your selfless act doesn’t go unnoticed.

Many angry man wouldn’t marry interracial couple
New Orleans, Louisiana governor and U.S. senator is agreeing with many other s asking for the resignation of a local official who refused to marry an interracial couple. Keith Bardwell, a white justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish in the southeastern part of Louisiana refused to marry Beth Humphrey, a white woman, and Terence McKay, a black man. Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, stated, “Disciplinary action should be taken immediately, including the revoking of his license.” Mr. Bardwell did not return any phone calls Friday. Mr. Bardwell has always asked couples if they are interracial, if so, he refers them to another justice of the peace. As stated by Bill Quigley, the director of the Center for Constitutional Rights and Justice, “A justice of the peace is legally obligated to serve the public, all the public. Racial discrimination has been a violation of Louisiana and U.S. law for decades. No public official has the right to pick and choose which laws they are going to follow.” Mr. Bardwell’s poor decision by rejecting this couples request has sparked other comments from officials such as, U.S. Senator Mar Landrieu, stating, “It is an example of the ugly bigotry that divided our country for too long.”
Can you feel the rage? Mine or others? How horribly rude can one person be? I was offended, astounded, and let down in the system that people like that are allowed in office. This man needs to be taken out of office and charges brought against him were my first initial thought regarding this article.
I knew there were crooked politicians in the official offices but when someone has the ability to show the public such as Terence McKay and his new wife, then I think something needs to be done. This man needs to be removed from office, charged with breaking the law and led as an example for upper powers of law that nobody is above the law. Please do not think that I believe that statement to be totally true we all know, politicians, doctors, lawyers have gotten by with much more then this crime. But my feelings have been confirmed in our justice system if nothing is done about this horrible injustice to the public.
I have no idea what Mr. Bardwell’s thought was by turning this couple down, but he needs to wake up and smell the roses, this isn’t the 1940’s or 1950’s. We strive as American’s to be proud of our history and what we have over came. The public does realize racial discrimination still exists but with each strive of each passing day I hope that we will surpass this immature and selfish way of thinking. Mr. Bardwell has no right nor ever has a right to decide on who he should judge to be married or not to be married. Mr. Bardwell has served as a justice of the peace for 34 years but this doesn’t give him a right to break the law and find no fault in doing so. He should be no different than someone speeding and being caught doing so. Also this article found at, http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091016/ap_on_re_us/us_interracial_rebuff
Has a grammar issue on the title. Don’t you love English, would of never thought about it before all this.

Quapaw tribe among 564 tribes to take part in Tribal Nation’s Conference in Washington D.C.
One representative from each of the 564 federally recognized tribes are welcome to a Tribal Nations Conference in November located in Washington D.C. This invitation is directly from President Barack Obama. “ This is kind of special, this is a special opportunity for us to come as a single voice and for us to show our support for the president, but also inform him of our needs," says John Berrey, the Chairman of the Quapaw Tribal Business Committee. This article found in www.koamtv.com is one of special interest as our Quapaw Tribe from Ottawa County, Oklahoma is one of the selected tribes to attend. The main issue that John Berrey would like to bring to President Obama is as most Americans, health care. Mr. Berrey also stated he is in hopes one of the subjects that will be brought up to the President Obama is the Native Americans ongoing social issues. This conference is scheduled on November 5th of this year.
I was very excited to hear that the Quapaw Tribe was invited to the conference in November. This article took my attention, for my heritage is one of Indian, and my grandmother made this very clear. The fact that the heads of these 564 tribes are conferencing to allow the voices and concerns of all the tribes to be given a voice is wonderful. Mr. Berrey has wonderful issues that need to be addressed as well as others I am sure. I felt best knowing that Mr. Berrey also wanted to listen to what Barack Obama has to say as well as voicing his concerns.
My outlook towards this situation increased to a more positive one the more I read the article then it was prior. As Mr. Berrey stated, “It’s the relationship with the Indian Health Service that we want to talk to him about.” This is a subject that white, black or Indian, or any other American has issues with that needs to be discussed. Being unemployed as I am with no insurance, I can relate to this issue of healthcare.
As Berrey stated, “Tribal People have been in the system of being in a paternal relationship with the federal government and over the years, and over time it’s made it a challenge for some families to get out of the cycle.” This isn’t only American Indians; this is most of the United States in that, “Paternal relationship with the federal government.” I only hope the best for Mr. Berrey in voicing his opinion in helping the Indian issues needing to be addressed. The American Indian’s has came a long way from the pioneer days, but the hope I have is that the voices that will be heard is does not fall on deaf ears. All 564 tribes need to become one voice so all can be heard and not drowned out by the many. I also think this will be a good example for the president to make a difference in the lives of those who have heritage here in the USA longer then most.

Students and teachers tested during tornado drill
The Missouri Center for Safe Schools is completing an eight-teen month grant to help train the students and teachers for any type of emergency. On Tuesday the alarms bellowed through the halls of Harry S. Truman Elementary halls with more than three hundred students gather in the hallways. Russell Thompson of the Missouri Center for Safe Schools states, “We were either going to do a tornado drill, a fire drill, or an intruder drill.” The main goal is to train and teach not only the student but the teachers what to do in case of any scenario. Teaching the teachers what to do if there is a child or two missing during these drills gives the drill an edge of reality.
It makes me feel more comfortable knowing my grandchildren are being prepared for many types of disasters that might occur. I am always concerned with how the schools handle so many children in situations such as fire, tornado or intruder. I have always thought that putting the children in a hallway for a tornado was very inappropriate. I believe that the new schools being built should have storm shelters or safe rooms for both tornadoes and intruders.
This has changed the way I felt previously, regarding how our children are cared for everyday in the school and what they are prepared for whatever the future holds for us. As http://www.fox14tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11269736 states, “The Center for Safe Schools says reality like hiding the children can keep student and teachers from becoming complacent during the drills.” This shows me that they are doing all that they can to try to protect what means so much to us, our children. Children are unpredictable and so are tornadoes or fires, and most of all intruders. I know without a doubt that everyone can’t be completely prepared for all that is or could happen but this helps prepare for some possibilities. I applied for a job as a Teaching Assistant to a school that my children attended for many years, as I approached the school I grabbed the handle to the door and it would not open. I heard a voice ask my name and then they buzzed me in. Although I was a bit flabbergasted as to the lock down procedure the longer I thought about it I came to realize this is what our world has come to, this is what we have to do to protect our children. The days of walking into the classroom and getting your children are done. The kidnappers, murderers, terrorist and rapist have forced our society to lock down our children for their own protection.
I feel much safer as to the procedures the schools are taking with our children as I read this article, knowing my grandchildren are as safe as could be expected. From my school days to today life has changed and became much more dangerous and with this danger must come protection. You would rather be safe than sorry.

The Life Sentence of Levi King
It all started on September 29, 2005 in a small town of Pineville, Missouri; at 340 Pleasant Ridge Road between the hours of 1:30pm and 3pm. Orlie Mc Cool, 70, and his former daughter in-law Dawn Mc Cool, 47, were the first victims of the 48 hour killing spree. Mr. Levi King pleads guilty in the two count of first degree murder of Orlie and Dawn Mc Cool. These led to two life sentences without parole and are to run consecutively. Before being captured Mr. King killed Brian and Michell Conrad and Zach Doan and shot their daughter Robin 10 years of age from Lubbock, Texas on September 30, 2005. Robin called 911 and was the sole survivor of Kings killing spree. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspectors arrested King on September 30, 2005, when he tried to return to the United States from Mexico. King had various firearms in the Mc Cools truck that was stolen; this included a .380-caliber handgun that was allegedly stolen from the Mc Cools also. It took the jurors eight hours to decide to spare his life and grant him life in prison without parole.
When I first read these articles in http://www.newschannel10.com/Global/story.asp?S=11270442 and http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/local_story_109204750.html my stomach turned with anger and disappointment. You can’t have a heart and change your mind on how you feel about murders such as Levi King, someone who doesn’t care for life, his own or others surrounding him.
People expect no more then what the justice system offers them as Mr. Kings Defense Attorney Maxwell Peck stated so eloquently, “He will be held accountable for his crimes; he's going to serve every day of his life in prison for the rest of his natural life. Ultimately we are gratified but there are no winners." Personally this man needs to be put to death, he didn’t give his victims a chance at a fair trial why should he have one? Mr. Levi King gets for the rest of his life a free three course meal daily along with room and board, that the tax payers have to pay. Am I the only one that see’s a problem with the whole justice system here? The unspoken words from the victims Orlie Mc Cool, Dawn Mc Cool, Brian Conrad, Michell Conrad or Zach Doan, never received their day in court, the victims never had a chance to plead their case, to tell their side of the story, no they was just murdered with no recourse and now the only payment received is life in prison. Mr. King took lives, his should be taken as well, and it shouldn’t matter if it is one murder or five. If there is proof of premeditated murder, not an accident but had full intent, then the same should be received by the accused.
An old saying comes to mind, “an eye for an eye.” My thought is keeping these convicts in prison for life is wrong, they should be executed and done. They deserve no rights as their victims received none.

Ohio ponders injecting lethal drugs into muscle, bone
Ohio State is thinking of new ways to administer lethal drugs to death row inmates, since the last execution failed. A representative of the prison states another way is injecting into the bone marrow or muscle. These suggestions just might be a backup plan for the old traditional intravenous injection style. Romell Broom couldn’t even be executed do to the fact of not being able to find a suitable vein. This execution is now on hold until a federal court hearing takes place on November 30th. The governor of Ohio has issued a reprieve for two other death-row inmates until the study of this execution procedure has had more time for evaluation. Governor Ted Strickland ordered a five month reprieves to give the prisons department adequate time to update their rules regulations on dealing with long periods of time when they can’t find a sufficient vein on a prisoner. As of date, thirty five of the fifty U.S. states have the death penalty, Texas is the most active in this. Ohio has put thirty two men to death since the year 1999.
I am a bit overwhelmed reading the sympathy of these people that have created heinous crimes against their fellow human beings. I as a mother can’t in any manner understand or comprehend what a family member of a victim would feel like knowing this person that created such horrific crimes against my child, mother, sister, father or spouse could get sympathy from the justice system.
Horrible murders such as John Allen Muhammad that frightened the Washington area or Darryl Durr was scheduled to executed next month for strangling and raping a sixteen year old girl, Angel O’Nan in 1988. These facts are www.usatoday.com is letting everyone out there know that these heinous crimes that are constantly being committed are allowed by our stringent justice system. This article hit home so closely because I lived in Olathe, Kansas my teen age life and my best friends sister was tragically murdered she was but a young girl coming home from school and her psycho killer was waiting in her closet and stabbed this girl over one hundred times. This murder was up for parole several years ago and I seen my friends mom sitting in the audience making sure her daughters voice is still heard. Although she and many other family members try to make their loved ones voice or life itself be heard, do they make a difference? Is it for your heart sake and nothing more? Are they talking to the wall of justice to only be heard by a mute ear?
I have always believed and was taught to believe that the United States Justice System is fair, as we grow up in life and reality sets in I think we all see the true light of our justice system. From mass murders, to psychotic killers, to the smallest car wreck or a ticket, the truth of the matter is sometimes it isn’t what you know it is who you know. What happened to the Truth, What happened to the Honor, and last but not least what happened to our Justice?

Pumpkin pie filling may have to be frozen or from scratch
As pumpkin pie is a fall and winter tradition for many families we are falling on hard times, and finding a can of pumpkin products is not going to be easy. Food 4 Less in Joplin, Missouri states the canned pumpkin shelf has been pretty bare for at least a month or more. Libby Pumpkin blames a poor growing season last year. “Right now we can’t get our generic at all,” Store Manager Brooke Rentfro explains. Local pumpkin farmer Rich Wood suggest making your pumpkin pies from scratch. Wood blames the poor weather is to blame for the bad pumpkin crops. “Our pumpkins, our regular Jack O’Lantern pumpkins did alright, but we’ve had a lot of molding this year. And our big prize winner pumpkins did great because they like lots of water. We’ve had pumpkins up to 200 pounds this year,” stated Wood.
I am not shocked this has happened knowing how poor the weather has been the last year or so, but you never think about not having canned pumpkin on the shelf to fix your pie. It is tradition, I guess you can take this as looking a gift horse in the mouth, always expecting it to be there never thinking of it not for any reason. As I read the article on http://www.koamtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11242907&nav=menu657_3 I found myself looking for the first time small resemblances of the recession, what grandma and grandpa used to tell us of how the food was short during the great dust bowl, and how you made sure there was nothing that went to waist. Now I see.
This is an eye opener for me and my family, I can’t say it hasn’t changed my thought in regards to this thinking that it would not ever be an issue to go to your store and get what you want off the shelf. Always expecting it to be there, never thinking that it wouldn’t.
As mom always said, “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”

Swine Flu: Intense Tracking for Side Effects
It has been recorded more than three thousand people a day have a heart attack. If you’re one of these people the day after your swine flu shot, would it not make you wonder if the vaccine was to blame and not all the poor food that you eat on a daily basis. The government is starting an unprecedented system stated from www.morningsun.com to track possible side effects as mass flu vaccinations begin next month. The main idea is to detect any rare but real problems that may arise quickly the inevitable coincidences that are sure to cause some false alarms. As stated by Dr. Neal Halsey, “We don’t have any reason to expect any unusual problems with this vaccine.” Because this H1N1 flu concentrates on the young more than the older folks, along with vaccine concerns are from 1976, when 500 cases was reported of the 45 million vaccinated against that year’s swine flu. The CDC is racing to gather a list of what is normal: 25,000 heart attacks every week; 14,000 to 19,000 miscarriages ever week; 300 severe allergic reactions called anaphylaxis every week. Any massive increase would mean fast checking to see if that vaccine really to increase and how much so that the health officials could set out the appropriate warnings.
This article is very obvious that many people’s fear is honest and true. My feelings haven’t changed as to how I feel about this outbreak. Our lives have changed so drastically compared to the way it was prior to the announcement of H1N1, we are more clean, and aware of our hygiene.
It scares me to death seeing all the possibilities of side affect’s along with the unknown of any side effects that might show at a later time. My family has low immunity systems, a father with cancer and my daughter with MRSA and my father as well with MRSA. I have had many years of my life with lung issues, pneumonia, or bronchitis and such, so this scare brings more fear in my life. We have supplied our house and our pocket books with hand sanitizers and anti bacterial soaps. Hand washing has become more frequently then it was before. I have noticed about my family that has changed and one that is very obvious is when we go out shopping, at department stores or such, they grab the anti-bacterial wipes to wipe the carts down, to keep the germs under control. They make me so proud! As long as the changes that we have made stays and doesn’t diminish. I feel that the public needs to be more conscientious about the flu, the germs, about watching how people cough and sneeze without covering their mouths. My family and I went to Wal-Mart the other day in Fort Scott, Kansas and our cashier was an older woman and she was coughing and sneezing in her hands as she was taking our food and scanning it. My jaw was dropped, I was speechless, then the straw that broke the camel’s back was when she took a Kleenex and wiped her nose as she was handling our food, and stuffed it in her pocket and back to handling my food again. She didn’t use hand sanitizer she didn’t clean her hands in any manner. I was standing there shaking my head. I ended up taking it to the manager and complaining. I came close to telling the manager I want everything new in my cart and they can deal with the rest of the stuff that was contaminated in my cart from her.
The concept of a pandemic is petrifying, but the fear is real, and can very much be a reality for this generation. Knowing the overwhelming amount of people that passed when the Plague was running ramped through the many civilizations of that era is insurmountable to the H1N1. Paranoid? Afraid? Should we be? Maybe that isn’t the question I should ask, maybe I should ask what are you doing to stay healthy and flu free. This is one time I think all of our mothers wouldn’t mind that we don’t share, none of your fellow humans want whatever you have, so cover your mouth, wash your hands, sneeze or cough in the crack of your arm.

Before Lucy came Ardi
The story of humankind is reaching further back to 4.4 million years ago in what is now called Ethiopia and the subject found has been given a name, “Ardi.” The gender is a female and the weight approximately 110 pounds and estimated to be 4 foot tall. C. Owen Lovejoy of Kent State University a well known anthropologist has said that the older skeleton reverses the common wisdom of human evolution. Rather than humans evolving from the ancient chimp like creatures, this new find provides that chimps and humans have common ancestors and each evolved and changed separately along time. Tim White, director of Human Evolution Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley states; “This is not that common ancestor, but it’s the closest we have ever been able to come. The lines evolved into modern human and living apes probably shared an ancestor 6-7 million years ago.” There was 125 pieces for scientist to reassemble the skeleton. As stated at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091001/ap_on_sc/us_sci_before_lucy , Ardi was found in Ethiopia’s Afar Rift, where they have found many other fossils and skeletal remains from the wooded environment of that period. There were fossils of 29 different kinds of species of birds and 20 other different kinds of small mammals. Ardi’s upper canine teeth are stubby, which resembles more human characteristics and not chimpanzees. As the scientist analyzed the enamel from the tooth it was found that the diet of this creature was one of fruit, and other foods as nuts and leaves.
I have for many years not believed in the theory of man coming from ape, it is not in my religious belief and when I saw this article I was interested in reading what new discovery that was found. As knowing and believing my ancestry wasn’t from a chimpanzee, doesn’t keep me from seeing and reading and even finding what new things that has been dug up and discovered of the many millions of years ago.
I in no way have changed my thought that humans did not come from chimps, and this article did not sway my thinking in any manner regarding this. Even with Ardi’s feet being rigid enough for walking but still having that big toe for grasping and climbing, gives no proof that this is the remnants of man.
My belief of not coming from chimps have not changed and this article did not sway it in any manner but I do find all new finds of the past millions of years ago, I just don’t feel now nor ever can it be hooked to man.

Census Employee Dies Tragic Death
On September 12, 2009 Bill Sparkman a 51 year old teacher and part-time Census worker was found hung from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery with a word carved on his chest and that word was, “fed.” They hung Bill in a secluded part of Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky. Mr. Sparkman’s body was severely in the state of decay. Bill Sparkman was a Eagle Scout that decided his services would be best served in this area as a Boy Scout Director, in which he later became a substitute teacher. Laurel county had a lot of possibilities for Bill and his future. Henrie Sparkman has ideas regarding her sons passing but she wouldn’t share them with us at this moment. She feels it is best to sit and wait for the FBI to come up with their own conclusion regarding her sons untimely demise. Gilbert Acciardo, a retired Kentucky state trooper who is now the director of an after school program. He stated several times that, “Based on my years in the state police, becareful because people are going to perceive you different than they do elsewhere,” Acciado stated again, “Even though he was the Census Bureau, sometimes people can view someone with any government agency as, “The government.” Mr. Accaido goes on to describe Bill Sparkman as a, “innocent.”
It reminded me of the 50”s and 60’s where they hung blacks , not for doing any wrong just for the color of their skin. Upon my first reading of this article at www.foxnew.com my jaw hit the floor and the first thing that came rushing to my mind is what era are we in? How old are we? Better yet what country is this? Liggett questions huh?
The horrific conception of someone torturing this poor gentleman for trying to make a living, trying to make ends meet, where is this a crime? Barbarians? Savages? Cave Men? Which label are we? Not compassion, Christian. This brings me to tears and utterly nausiation. “Even though he was with the Census Bureau, sometimes people can view someone with any government agency as , “The Government.” Labels, funny how you get a lot of that in school and just as much in the real world. I have surmised, to live as Mr. Sparkman, as much as possible and do what is necessary not that we have any choice in today’s society.
I have always viewed the Kentucky state to be gorgeous and the people who reside there to be as beautiful, but I am afraid my outlook has changed unexpectedly. As stated, the Census Bureau has yet to allow it’s employees to start resuming their jobs from door to door in Clay County pending the invstigation. The quantity of government officials will have grown by leaps and bounds next year to 1.2 million temporary employees to find these hard to find people. Secretary Gary Locke stated, “ We are deeply saddened by the loss of our co-worker, he was a shining example of hard working men and women employed by the Census Bureau.”

Taylor Swift and Kanye West
According to http://theconversation.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/16/taylor-swift-and-americas-future/, on the MTV Video Music Awards there was a little more excitement that what most would have thought happen. Taylor Swift was up against Beyonce for the woman’s music video. And as Twilight’s Taylor Lautner announced that Taylor Swift the winner she was surprised when announced. With that she went to the stage and began to make her acceptance speech when Kanye West got on to the stage and took the microphone away from Taylor and said that Beyonce had the best video. With that announcement made Mr. West went back to his set and stayed the remainder of the show. When Beyonce finally won an award she asked Ms. Swift to come out to the stage and share the spot light. Pink also felt sorry for the way Mr. West treated Ms. Swift. At some point Kanye apologized to Ms. Swift’s mother with a very distraught Taylor Swift in the back.
As I began reading this story I just could not believe a musician would do that to a fellow musician. I continued to read and my respect for Beyonce increased and my respect for Kanye decreased. I felt bad for Taylor Swift and only could image what Taylor was thinking when she saw him coming to the stage. Along with what Beyonce was thinking when Kanye made that statement. I feel that the producers made a big mistake he should have kick out.
My respect for Beyonce increased because she allowed Taylor Swift to come out on to the stage with her to share the spotlight just a little more. Yes, Kanye has the freedom to speak what is on his mind but there are times they are appropriate time to way it. One of them is not taken taking microphone and saying it on world wide networks.
With this going on I had to find out what the other papers were saying. Then finally I look on mtv.com were I found the store and everything that happened during breaks. I found out that during a break he gave the audience the bird and some more things. Then finally returning to his seat, after sometime Pink got up and shook her head discuss. What was going through his mind when he interrupted her? I could only think that Ms. Swift is one of the most strong willed people that has grazed my ears with their music. I think when Kanye’s mother God rest her sole, decided to go over the “Golden Rule,” he must have been playing his music or he just doesn’t care about other people like that. Looking at the many different pictures regarding this matter one caught my eye and that is with Kanye holding a bottle of alcohol, it was bad enough he dishonored a good person, but he being a celebrity bring alcohol to an event that people use him as an example. I would ask what was he thinking but obviously he wasn’t thinking about anyone. It amazes me knowing how this man loved his mother as he did but finds it acceptable to act in the manner he does in front of millions as he did. His actions reflects his mother and that was a slam in my eyes.

Fort Scott corridor findings unveiled
Thursday night, officials and residents of Fort Scott received their first look at the possible future of the entire city of Fort Scott. The new look for Fort Scott will change the whole southern portion of the city, including changing the historical down town area, not to mention 69 Highway itself. This presentation of the possible change in a small south eastern city is a major reconstruction. The most affected will be the intersection of 69 hwy and National. An area of focus is Main Street where the major fire took out several historical buildings and left vacant grass covered lots. Felsburg, Holt and Ullevig project manager Kyle Anderson stated traffic plans were based on lasting until the year 2040. At the moment the engineers don’t have any estimate as to the costs for such a project, but this process has to face a stakeholder review and more comments before the final report in the later part of November.
I have been a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas many times and for many years, the people are kind, and that is the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay. I was very excited to read the article of new changes to areas in need of change. As stated in at www.morningsun.net stated so well this is a preliminary recommendation. This change will be for the good if it follows through and that elates me. But you know where there is good there is always bad, such as traffic delays and so on.
We all know that when KDOT starts working on anything they put traffic at a stand still; we all have been in the Orange zone, here or Kansas City. Instead of working on a small portioned area at a time to not affect people’s everyday lives, they block and zone miles of road or dozens of areas that they can’t work on right away. My main thought regarding this article is that I hope they do stop and realize life moves rather fast at times in the small sleepy town of Fort Scott.
As I pull this story to an end, I say to anyone who drives anywhere that has endured the, “Orange Zone,” this is my only complaint to the reconstruction of the town of Fort Scott. If you’re going to do road work as you say, portion off the area that you are actually physically working on, not miles of endless road that half the workers are nowhere near. In further thought, as for the historical down town fire several years ago, destroyed antique buildings that now only grassy lots lie. I say to the engineers let’s keep as much as possible looking like the original Fort Scott; we don’t want to lose our heritage with a modern thought. Finally the corner of National and 69 highway, this has been a dangerous intersection for many years and I have seen many, many accidents in this above mentioned area. With life comes changes, but changes shouldn’t let us forget who made those brick roads and why they are still there.
