You know I started doing this blog for a class in college, but I think I will continue with the process.
April 30, 2005 I lost my mother to cancer at a young age of 58 years old. It was traggic, a life changing moment that will live with me forever. December 26, 2009 I lost my father to cancer, at a young age of 68 years old.
This is being told to make people realize the importance of parents, of family. I feel that today our society has lost the concept that family stays together no matter what is set before you. I was my fathers keeper for five years. We endured surgeries, blood transfusions, plasma transfusions and much, much more. All though to confess something, there was only a few times that I felt the weight of his disease was on my shoulders. I wanted to make him happy, to keep every moment that God gave us something special. This was a HUGE task, but one well worth the pain and effort of each passing day.
This blog is only to tell people that takes the moment to read this. Love and Honor your parents, you only have a short time on this earth to show them how much you appreciate the things they did for you. Stop bitching so much about what they said or didn't do, and realize what they did say and what they did do for you as a child or as an adult or as far as that goes for your children. Life is short folks, take it from me regret tastes horrible.

Budget cuts may mean more dangerous winter roadways in Kansas
Major budget cuts in Kansas shorts the ability for KDOT to do their jobs properly. Instead of working harder clearing the roads they have to work smarter. This means that only certain highways will be well treated and this is prioritized by the amount of usage. Highway 69 will be top priority, Highway 160 will be cleaned off until you see wet wheel tracks, as for smaller highways such as K-103 or 54 highway, well you will only see one wheel track the rest of the road could be covered in ice and snow. Both Missouri and Oklahoma are operating as usual.
I was devastated to see a budget cut in the highway department; my feelings grew to feel the same as when I started reading the article as to when I was done reading the article. Devastated and appalled.
Mr. Wayne Nelson of KDOT hasn’t got the wrong idea but I will tell you someone in the budget committee does, as I read more on this article located at http://www.fox14tv.com. Mr. Nelson states, “If we get something big here we want to make sure that we're ready to take care of those folks, so by us really protecting our resources now it may give us a better opportunity to make it safe in the future." This statement didn’t make me feel any better that this man has to skimp and save on his highway treatment because of budget cut.
It amazes me to no end that anyone in that budgeting committee would cut short the care of the highways knowing how many lives are at risk for such a stupid move as to save a dollar or two. How about instead of giving the managers raises or anyone in the office raise put a, “Freeze,” on that and put the money where it belongs, on the highways to protect the drivers on bad winter days. Out of all the budget cuts I have read and heard of lately because of this recession this one just boils my blood. So to conserve the salt for the roads the crews have to prioritize which highway should get it more than another highway. So all you hicks that live in the small towns, well if you get fired cause you can’t make it in be sure to stop by the KDOT and let them know you need a job since they didn’t want to clean your roads to give you safe passage to work. I know a bit dramatic but oh my gosh come on people lessen the pocket of a congressman and put it back on the roads where it belongs what the heck?

Man hides in Alabama Wal-Mart, takes cash
Fairfield, Alabama a man decided to take the holiday shopping to a different meaning, he hid in Wal-Mart and later tried to leave with $54,000.00 taped and stuffed all over his body. On November 25th this man hid inside Wal-Mart closed its doors. A guard working that night detained the man as he tried to leave through locked doors. What gave him away was money started falling from his body as he shook the doors to leave. There was also a key that was found on this criminal which makes the police think there may have been an accomplice, this theory hasn’t been proven yet. Chief Pat Mardis said this criminal could of gotten by with all this money if he would have been patient and waited another twenty minutes for the doors to open and he could of slipped through the heavy crowds of people unnoticed. The thirty five year old man is in Jefferson County Jail for robbery and burglary charges with a sixty thousand dollar bond.
I thought this to be a story in the beginning of thievery, and more gloom and doom. I hesitated to read it not wanting to hear this kind of news constantly. So my feelings in the beginning of rather skeptical, and the more I read the more I laughed. I can’t believe anyone one person could be so dumb, amazing to think he would of gotten by with a lot of money only by being patient.
Chief Pat Mardis said, “The man could have escaped if he'd waited 20 more minutes for employees to unlock the doors, but he got nervous.” The ignorance amazes me, first I was excited to hear that he had such a plan that shouldn’t be so easy to accomplish yet it was simple to execute. As this article at http://www.fox14tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11616433 shows all the chaos of the season allows people to get by with things and acting certain ways that are normally completely socially unacceptable.
My family and I always joked about robbing a Brinks truck, and then we all laugh as we walk by the vehicle stating, “With our luck there would only be a roll of nickels in it.” This is a family joke that has been said and laughed about several years. It is astounding as to what people will try to get by with, especially at the holiday time. A large portion of this world knows and feels the recession, but this doesn’t give you the right to do such an illegal action as he did. This is one of those capers that needs to go on the show I think the name was, “Worlds dumbest Criminals.” Wouldn’t you of loved to had been a fly on the wall to have seen the security guards face when that money started falling out? Think about it, this man is a security guard, he is working for his bare minimum wage and this man is walking out with fifty four thousand dollars there is no justice in that. I think if I was the security guard it would of took all I had to keep from beating the snot out of this guy. I work for a living to get my money sucker so should you!!!!

Motorcyclist dead after crash with a car on Joplin’s 32nd Street
Joplin Police state that Monday shortly after eleven a.m. a woman Sharon Fisher sixty seven years of age was driving a car was turning off of 32nd street was hit by a motorcycle from the opposite direction. Christopher Eskandari twenty three years old of Joplin was riding the motorcycle that was involved in the crash. Mr. Eskandari was pronounced dead at the scene. "We responded to an injury accident involving a motorcycle and a car," says Corporal Dan Haskins. "(We) got out here and found out that - unfortunately found out that it was a fatality crash with the motorcyclist being killed in the crash." Sharon Fisher was treated and released at a later time. The Joplin Police Department is still investigating the crash at this time.
I was leery to read this article, but yet hopeful. With each article or notice of news on the television in regards to motorcycle crashes I sit and wait hoping to hear alive or on the way to recovery. I left this article with the same fear as I did in the beginning that death was shortly to follow.
The article was found to be well written and informative at http://www.koamtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11637437 . It would have been better if the motorcyclist beat all odds and was still alive. But atlas no, I was let down. The partial quote from Corporal Dan Haskins, “it was a fatality crash with the motorcyclist being killed in the crash,” I had heard these words before. As you can see at http://www.ok.gov/health/documents/McycleTBI.pdf the equations though speaking in Oklahoma areas are undeniably accurate. Per mile traveled, persons on a motorcycle are approximately 14 times more likely to die and 3 times as likely to be injured in a crash as occupants of passenger cars. This information pulled from http://www.ntsb.gov/speeches/s090303.htm . Since 1997, the number of motorcycle fatalities has increased 141 percent, an increase that far exceeds that of any other form of transportation. In fact, the number of motorcycle fatalities in recent years has been more than double the number of deaths in each year from accidents in the transportation modes of aviation, rail, marine, and pipeline combined. In 2007, for example, 5,154 motorcyclists died in crashes, and motorcycle fatalities now account for more than 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash fatalities. In 1997, 2,116 motorcyclists died. Even more staggering are the increases in injuries in 2006, for example, 88,000 motorcycle injuries were estimated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and in 2007, 103,000.
I was involved in a motorcycle accident and it changed my life forever, these machines are not toys. Motorcycles are a lot of fun, but can be deadly if not taken seriously and to be sure to take all safety precautions possible no matter how you look. I was a avid helmet wearer but my husband complained a lot of being too hot wearing the helmets. I only thank God that we had our helmets on or that road would have had our brain matter all over it. Believe me when I say I love to ride motorcycles; I have ridden since I was less than five years old. This motorcycle was wonderful my husband and I spent a lot of alone time together; he loved this as much as I did. Feeling the wind in your hair, looking at the ground passing by under your feet, it was a adrenalin rush like none other. I guess I won’t crawl on another one with fear of losing my life, my life affects a lot of people and I know that now. I have a lot to live for so unlike this gentleman that was killed. I have time to fix and make amends with what I want to do and where I want to go. I thank God each day that I am alive, as I star at my horrible scars it is only but a reminder of what could have been .

College’s too-fat-to graduate rule under fire
Most college students when completing their time and receive their grades expect to graduate, well in a school located in Pennsylvania school physical fitness matters just as much if not more than grades. Lincoln University has criteria that students with a body mass of 30 percent or more must take a fitness course that meets three hours per week and pass this class in order to graduate. The first class of this requirement is almost coming to an end there are several students and outside persons that require input in regards to this fitness class policy. A current student named, Tiana Lawson, 21 years of age recently wrote an editorial in the school paper regarding this new fitness policy and received national attention. She feels this policy would not be as much of a problem if it applied to all students not just those with high BMI. David Kairys, a professor of law at Temple University Law School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania states, “The part that seems excessive is forcing them to take this course or to exercise three hours a week, which isn’t a bad idea for them, but should be their choice.” David goes on saying the requirement of the students is, “paternalistic and intrusive.” James DeBoy, chairman of the school’s Department of Health and Physical Education, says the requirements are no different than other courses as math and communications. DeBoy said 620 students have either tested out or taken the course, with only eighty remaining to get their BMI evaluated. An estimated number of students 12-15 will need to take the class in January. DeBoy states, “This is one university’s –granted it’s radical and it’s upsetting—approach to try to begin to directly address obesity.”
Interesting, I was not happy reading what I thought was hopefully a misprint in regards to this university doing such a thing. I was as upset finishing this article as I was starting to read this article. Shocked and astounded as to the audacity of some people thinking they have a right to affect someone’s education as such in regards to their size. This personally is no different than racism. The article that got my writing juices flowing so heavy is found at http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/11/30/lincoln.fitness.overweight/index.html.
A person goes to college to learn not to be judged, who are they to say who can graduate due to the size of the student? I always thought it was what was in the brain and how the student uses the knowledge that allows them the ability to graduate or not. Hmm maybe I have been understanding this process wrong, maybe just maybe I shouldn’t be in college because this 42 year old woman won’t be able to pass a physically education class either. "When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself." -- Wayne Dyer (Psychotherapist, Author and Speaker) Well said I think.
I feel this article to be interesting and very debatable as to what our schools are teaching their students. My naïve thoughts of always being concerned what the school is feeding our children, really wasn’t the main issue was it? It doesn’t just stop there; the problems escalate to higher grades. Funny, how society blames mom and dad for the obesity of children today when the school has just as much to blame. How? Have you checked the food that your children eat at school? This problem of schools labeling our children has made it to college, so now the college will decide if your child can graduate or not, it doesn’t matter how smart he or she is, what matters is how much BMI they register at. There is no wonder America isn’t the Top Dog any longer; who are you to judge me or anyone else by their size, and who are you to think you have a right to make me be a certain size? If this so called land of the free is so free then it is my decision as well as those before and after me to decide how big I wish to be, or not to be. My thoughts are those of my own, but consider this in my closing; If you allow people to kill themselves by smoking, then how are we any different, don’t you think you should worry about what we have to offer not what we weigh? Just a thought to make you go, Hmmm?

Frontenac hosts Christmas Kickoff
Frontenac seemed to want to start an early kickoff of the season greetings to all. November 29th Frontanac, Kansas hosted it yearly Christmas kickoff and the city seems to be the first city in the area to host such a Christmas event. Mayor Jim Kennedy said, “Frontenac made the decision more than a decade ago when the Christmas kickoff got started in 1997.” The kickoff began with a group of Frontenac students singing Christmas carols, Mayor Kennedy flicked the switch on a large number of lights in the downtown Frontenac area. But the finally was when the students sang and Santa Claus rode into the area on a big fire truck, with a big wave of his hand he led the more than 200 plus crowd inside for hot chocolate and sugar cookies.
I was so excited to read this article, it started out festive, and it ended so. These are the kind of articles I really enjoy reading. It excited me to hear the touch of the past. People are not in their houses warm and cozy watching the football game on television, they were all gathered to see a jolly ole soul coming down the road in a fire truck.
I enjoyed reading this article on http://www.morningsun.net/featured/x215412351/Frontenac-hosts-Christmas-kickoff it was festive, and it kept the spirit of the holidays. There were no doom and gloom, there was no death or dismemberment, there was no missing persons or items, and it was all happy, festive and kept the concept as such through the complete article. “Every year we try to add on to the park and the lights in the city,” Kennedy said. “We think we’re getting all types together here. With the singing and everything, it just makes everyone so close-knit, from the teeny ones who can’t even walk to the 80-year-olds.” The mayor had a deep moment realizing the spirit of Christmas runs in any age touches most all souls. “I love it when all the little kids from the high school come out on a Sunday night when the Chiefs are playing to come sing reindeer songs,” Kennedy said. “It’s just something that a small town can do. A large town, I don’t believe could do this as easily as we can do it.” Mr. Kennedy made the comment that I was really touched by and was very factual about large towns not having this kind of spirit of a small town such as Frontenac.
It is wonderful to find a town that has kept the spirit of Christmas alive and beating as a human heart. This mayor and town holds the spirit and keeps it alive with each year that passes. The mayor might have been actually honest as his acknowledging the city’s touch, of young and old towns’ people at the Christmas kickoff. As you drive through the town looking at each pole with decorations of Christmas you actually feel the true meaning of what it’s all about. The small town atmosphere spills over as you see the smiles of its town folk and this can take you back to before Christmas became so commercial. The day that Christmas was about giving and not receiving, when people where there for their neighbors and family, not having to worry about what would be said or possibly a lawsuit for helping someone. Frontenac, Kansas is a small town with an old fashion atmosphere, a place to raise your children.

Alec Baldwin says lost interest in acting, will soon quit
Actor Alec Baldwin age 51 years old was interviewed for Men’s Journal to feature in the December issue. Alec feels that his film career was a complete failure, although he was in many films such as Bettlejuice, It’s Complicated, 30 Rock and The Hunt for Red October and The Cooler. Mr. Baldwin was chosen to co-host the 2010 Oscar ceremonies. He also told Playboy Magazine this year that he was, “done,” with his career in 2012 and would retire at “30 Rock’s” wrap party. Alec also stated, “I consider my entire movie career a complete failure," he told Men's Journal. "The goal of movie-making is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that." Mr. Baldwin also expressed interest in politics in the past but did not say in the interview what he intended to do should he quit acting.
The Baldwin’s have really done well in the acting business, as I read this article at http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reuters.com/alec-baldwin-says-lost-interest-acting-will-soon-quit-reuters . I realized that his expectation of what he thought his career should have been and actually was seemed to be two complete and totally different levels. This article was a bit disappointing as to my expectation of what Alec Baldwin has to offer the camera and what he will offer the camera which isn’t very much more than what he has already delivered.
Alec Baldwin was born April 3, 1958 and raised in Massapequa, NY along with his brothers Daniel, Stephen and William and sister’s Jane and Elizabeth. This article states from Alec, “I don’t have any interest in acting anymore; movies are a part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.” It amazes me how this man seems to think that his career was a failure when his name is known in homes everywhere. I can’t imagine having expectations of such proportion as this man does of his acting career to feel such disappointment with such effort. I was so excited to read any information regarding the Baldwin’s, but when I read this well disappointment sit in. This announcement has been made several times in the past, so if this comes to fruition then it will be interesting how it will actually end or if the end has a, “To be continued.”
Alec Baldwin also appeared on the daytime soap, “The Doctors,” on NBC between the years of 1980-1982, as said on http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800019239/bio. Along with the crazy preacher on, “Knots Landing,” on CBS in between 1979-1993 and “Married to the Mob,” in 1988 or “Working Girl,” in 1988 or the retro musical, “Talk Radio.” It was also announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will be co-hosting the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010. What a pair, I am excited about seeing them working together announcing the Academy Awards. There were many other special guest appearances that Alec preformed in such as Saturday Night Live, or The View, and Nip Tuck. Alec was born in Amityville, New York and has performed as an actor, director, producer, voice actor, driver, gas station attendant, shirt salesman and finally a waiter. I share this with you to enlighten you that he is human as well as anyone else in this world. He started from nothing and became something, not born with a silver spoon but earned the spoon instead. This family has been touched by tragedy as well as normal folks that are not blessed by a movie career, the loss of his father from lung cancer in 1983 and a blessing that his mother being a breast cancer survivor. If this announcement is true and final, then I say farewell, Alec you will be missed.
