Fairfield, Alabama a man decided to take the holiday shopping to a different meaning, he hid in Wal-Mart and later tried to leave with $54,000.00 taped and stuffed all over his body. On November 25th this man hid inside Wal-Mart closed its doors. A guard working that night detained the man as he tried to leave through locked doors. What gave him away was money started falling from his body as he shook the doors to leave. There was also a key that was found on this criminal which makes the police think there may have been an accomplice, this theory hasn’t been proven yet. Chief Pat Mardis said this criminal could of gotten by with all this money if he would have been patient and waited another twenty minutes for the doors to open and he could of slipped through the heavy crowds of people unnoticed. The thirty five year old man is in Jefferson County Jail for robbery and burglary charges with a sixty thousand dollar bond.
I thought this to be a story in the beginning of thievery, and more gloom and doom. I hesitated to read it not wanting to hear this kind of news constantly. So my feelings in the beginning of rather skeptical, and the more I read the more I laughed. I can’t believe anyone one person could be so dumb, amazing to think he would of gotten by with a lot of money only by being patient.
Chief Pat Mardis said, “The man could have escaped if he'd waited 20 more minutes for employees to unlock the doors, but he got nervous.” The ignorance amazes me, first I was excited to hear that he had such a plan that shouldn’t be so easy to accomplish yet it was simple to execute. As this article at http://www.fox14tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11616433 shows all the chaos of the season allows people to get by with things and acting certain ways that are normally completely socially unacceptable.
My family and I always joked about robbing a Brinks truck, and then we all laugh as we walk by the vehicle stating, “With our luck there would only be a roll of nickels in it.” This is a family joke that has been said and laughed about several years. It is astounding as to what people will try to get by with, especially at the holiday time. A large portion of this world knows and feels the recession, but this doesn’t give you the right to do such an illegal action as he did. This is one of those capers that needs to go on the show I think the name was, “Worlds dumbest Criminals.” Wouldn’t you of loved to had been a fly on the wall to have seen the security guards face when that money started falling out? Think about it, this man is a security guard, he is working for his bare minimum wage and this man is walking out with fifty four thousand dollars there is no justice in that. I think if I was the security guard it would of took all I had to keep from beating the snot out of this guy. I work for a living to get my money sucker so should you!!!!

Debra, I feel your angst. I would have a big problem too only it probably wouldn't be that I would want to punch the guy... I would probably be on the floor laughing my hiney off! Great article. My youngest daughter is adopted, and her birth father missed a court date because he was in jail for walking into Wal-Mart, loading up a cart with VCR's and DVD players and just walking out the door! Really!
